Last Monday, 5th February we visited Kids 1st Rake Lane for some pictures. We had a wonderful time playing with the children, being able to watch their Little Rescuers session (a course designed to teach first aid and life saving skills to nursery and primary aged children through fun, play, music and teamwork), participating in their games, and so much more!

There was a lot of colour around the nursery. From toys to the walls, carpets all the way to the sensory play areas and the lunch room, there was a vibrant, happy vibe in the nursery. After we've met the staff, we visited the different rooms inside the nursery, where we met many incredible and very talented children.

This little one, for example, was having the time of his life playing with dinosaurs and a little grey castle with a slide. He was having fun watching the dinosaurs slide one by one. His favourite dinosaur was definitely the blue one!

After the dinosaurs, our little hero also explored other toys. Walking on his own, he went over to the pretend kitchen next to the windows and showed us that it is possible to have lots of fun with a colander and a squishy yellow ball.

But this Seahorse wasn't the only one having all the fun!

The nursery was so nice, cosy and warm that this little one decided to take off her shoes and explore the different sensations of walking around the room with nothing but some socks on. After a few minutes of fun, she went back to playing with her favourite dragon: the purple one!

We went to a different room shortly after. We wanted to make sure we would leave no room behind when it comes to taking photos, so we walked next door to see what the children were up to.

Being a nursery nurse can be a rewarding and inspiring experience. At Kids 1st nurseries, and in order to provide the highest quality childcare across the North East of England, we invest in our staff through training. We only employ the best staff, as we strive to provide the best start in life for your children.

In one of the rooms, the children were playing with cars, racing around the table. Some children's strategies to win the races even involved jumping through roofs or going through shortcuts: these children were very determined to finish the race in first place!

Just like some children were playing with cars, other were drawing, painting and being super creative! For example, this little one was having a great time colouring a book with nature-related pictures.

At Kids 1st Nurseries, we give the children the freedom to choose what they would prefer to do during play time. We believe in letting them be as creative as they can, as we understand that creativity plays a huge role in children's development.

Before we called it a day, we headed over to one room where the Little Rescuers session was taking place. The children learned all about how to perform CPR, when to call an ambulance, what number to dial, and they even sang a postcode song and a song to help them to know how long chest compression should last for. All the children got to practice on teddy bears, and they all performed beautifully. They were then split into groups and everyone had a go at CPR.

If you are wondering whether or not CPR should be taught in schools, keep reading...

Statistics actually show that some countries are now benefiting from this with a marked increase in successful resuscitation skills and survival rates. The out of hospital cardiac arrest consensus in England (2014), showed that the emergency medical services attempted to resuscitate approximately 28,000 cases of out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in England, with an average overall survival rate of 8.6% (hospital to discharge). In comparison to this Norway, where they have been teaching school children CPR and have a proactive approach to early defibrillation, have a average hospital to discharge rate of 25%. The importance of teaching CPR to anyone, children or not, is evident.

The session was a success. The session was super fun and interactive, and the teacher used a child-friendly language. Everything was explained in a way that the children would understand, and there was a lot of effort put into the session. Due to this fun way of teaching, the children actually learn faster and remember details better.

Visiting Kids 1st Rake Lane was a lot of fun. We hope to return soon to document more events, smiles and fun.
