On Tuesday 13th December we headed over to Kids 1st Gosforth to watch the children perform their nativity play. All pf the children were so excited and couldn't wait to see their parent's reaction as soon as they walked on stage in character!

But let's start at the beginning. Why is acting so important after all? At school, there's an emphasis on children learning to read and write and rightly so, as these are fundamental skills. But where's the interest in how well a child is communicating and how clearly and confidently they are speaking? If you consider how much we communicate orally, interacting with friends, family, colleagues and strangers, then it seems odd that more emphasis isn't put on this in schools. At Kids 1st, however, we understand the importance of drama and how it can truly benefit the children, helping them improve their communication skills, as well as teaching them them not only how to speak clearly, loudly and with confidence, but many other communication skills as well.

On this blog post we will share with you the pictures we took of the event.

Before the preparations for the play begun, the children kept doing their usual activities - playing with toys, painting, drawing, being read some stories, singing songs and more! But we could tell how excited they were to put on those costumes and perform for their parents!

They children then heard a story called Be Brave, Little Penguin, which was about a little Penguin who couldn't swim and was afraid of the water. In the story, his parents played a crucial role of helping the little penguin understand that there were no scary monsters in the water, and that they would be right there to help him swim. In time, the penguin finally jumped in the water and loved it!

The time to dress up soon came, and one by one the children put on their costumes for the exciting play about the night that Jesus was born. The costumes were very creative and sparkly. And you can never have too much sparkle on stage, right?

How adorable was our little angel?

How about this excited little donkey? She sure loved that costume very much!

Of course we couldn't forget about our Mary and Joseph. How adorable are those faces?

All the children lined up ready to step on stage, not before shaking off those nerves with a few exercises!

The set looked amazing! It was show time!

The three Kings: Balthasar, Melchior and Gaspar were there too! And we didn't forget our star to guide their way.

The play was, obviously, a success! We had so much fun, and so did the children. After the play was over, we congratulated all the children on such a great job! Let's hope there's more events like this in the future! Well, done Gosforth!
